Communal Living Project Firstline Infection Prevention Series
KFMC Health Improvement Partners and Kansas Department of Health and Environment Healthcare-Associated Infections & Antimicrobial Resistance Program provided a facilitated infection prevention training opportunity to healthcare workers in communal living settings. Project Firstline, training developed by the CDC, consists of short videos, followed by group discussion.
Goal
This comprehensive infection control program is designed to provide foundational and practical knowledge to front line workers. We encourage you to gather your team and take advantage of this 8-week “Lunch and Learn” series to increase your infection prevention knowledge. Participants learned the “why” behind infection control to give them the skills and knowledge to make informed decisions to keep themselves, their coworkers and residents/clients safe. To stop the spread of infectious disease threats—including COVID-19—anyone working in any healthcare setting needs a basic knowledge of infection control and must understand and be ready to use infection control processes and procedures throughout their workday, including during every patient care activity and healthcare interaction. CDC’s Project Firstline is a collaborative of diverse healthcare, public health, and academic partners that is working to provide engaging, innovative, and effective infection control training for millions of frontline U.S. healthcare workers as well as members of the public health workforce.

This session discusses how COVID-19 is spread.
Session 6: PPE Part 1—Eye Protection (December 3, 2021)
This session talks about what PPE is and how it works for infection control, and focuses on eye protection.
Session 7: PPE Part 2—Gloves & Gowns (December 10, 2021)
This session focuses on the role of gloves and gowns and “dos and don’ts” for using them at work every day. We are sorry, but due to technical difficulties during the session, it was not recorded. The session incorporated the following videos from the CDC:

Session 8: Environmental Cleaning and Disinfection (December 17, 2021)
This session focuses on another essential part of infection and control: cleaning and disinfection. Cleaning and disinfection are important in healthcare because they keep germs away from people and keep infections from spreading. Cleaning removes dirt and some germs from surfaces and objects. Disinfection kills germs on surfaces and objects.
